Privacy Policy

Plain-language — what Haven collects, why, and the control you keep. No advertising, no third-party trackers, and we never sell your data.

Last updated: 6 October 2026 · Version 1.0.3

Haven is a homesteading app made by Dana and Garrett — a family growing, raising, and preserving their own around a busy modern life. We treat your data the way we’d want ours treated: kept safe, never sold, and always yours to take with you or delete.

This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email us at admin@haventheapp.com.

The short version

  • We collect only what Haven needs to work for you — your account details and the homestead information you choose to record.
  • We don’t run advertising, we don’t use third-party trackers, and we never sell your data.
  • No cookies. Neither the Haven app nor this website uses cookies or analytics.
  • We don’t use your information to train AI, and Haven has no AI features.
  • You can export everything, or delete your account and all your data, at any time.

What we collect

Your account. When you sign up we store your email address and the display name (and optional username) you choose. Your password is handled securely by our authentication provider and is never visible to us.

What you put into Haven. Everything you record to run your homestead: your plants, animals and flocks, harvests, pantry and food stores, journal notes, projects and to-dos, and any income and expenses you choose to track. Photos you add — for example to a community post, a pest sighting or a feedback message — are stored so they can appear in the app. Haven also keeps a copy of your homestead on your phone so it works offline.

Community and messages. If you take part in the community, your posts and comments are stored and shown to other members. Direct messages you send are stored so they can be delivered to the person you’re messaging.

Location for weather. When you search for a place to see its forecast, we save that location (its name and coordinates) so we can show your local weather. This comes from what you type — Haven does not track your device’s GPS or precise location.

Your settings. Your units, currency, date format and weather location are saved to your account so they follow you to your other devices.

Searches that find nothing. If you search Haven’s plant, animal, herb or community libraries and nothing matches, we record the words you searched for — not who searched — so we know what to add to the libraries.

Error reports. If the app runs into an error, it sends us a short technical report so we can fix it: the error message, where in the app’s code it happened, which screen you were on, the app version and your phone’s system version. Reports are linked to your account, only Haven’s admins can read them, and they’re deleted after 90 days (or straight away if you delete your account).

That’s it. We don’t collect analytics about how you tap around the app, we don’t fingerprint your device for advertising, and we don’t buy information about you from anyone else.

How we use your information

  • To run Haven for you — store your homestead, sync it across your devices, and show it back to you.
  • To provide the features you use — community, household sharing, weather, and reminders.
  • To support you when you get in touch, and to keep the service secure and working.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Haven. They only process your data to provide their service to us, never for their own purposes:

  • Supabase — secure hosting and database. This is where your account and homestead data live, encrypted.
  • Open-Meteo — weather forecasts. It receives the coordinates of the place you chose, and nothing that identifies you.
  • Resend — sends Haven’s account emails, such as confirming your email address and resetting your password. It receives your email address and the message we send you.
  • EmailOctopus — sends our newsletter and beta updates, only if you join the waitlist or beta list. It receives your email address, the hemisphere you chose and which list you joined. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • RevenueCat — only if you buy a subscription. It processes the purchase so we can unlock premium features. During the beta, Haven runs on complimentary founder access and no purchase information is collected.
  • Expo — delivers Haven’s app updates. When the app checks for an update, Expo receives your phone’s IP address and basic technical details (such as the app version and phone system), but none of your Haven data.

Community content is shared by design: anything you post publicly in the community is visible to other signed-in Haven members. Data you share with household members is visible to the people in your household.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.

Households and children

Haven is built for families. If you share your homestead, the members of your household can see the shared homestead data, and you can assign tasks to people you add — including children who don’t have their own account. Any details you add about a household member are under your control and can be edited or removed by you at any time.

If you join someone else’s homestead, what you add there becomes part of that homestead. If you leave, it stays with them (you can take copies with you). If you delete your account, it stays with the homestead’s owner, and any recipes or remedies you’d shared to the community come off the community, without your name. If you own a shared homestead and delete your account, the shared homestead is deleted for everyone in it.

Haven is for people aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and children take part only through a household managed by a parent or guardian, without their own account or login.

How we protect your data

Your data is encrypted in transit (over HTTPS) and encrypted at rest on our provider’s servers. We limit who can access it, and Haven is designed so that — wherever possible — you can only see and change your own data and your household’s shared data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, up-to-date measures to protect your information.

Your choices and rights

  • Export: download a complete copy of your Haven data at any time — including everything in a homestead you share — from Settings → Privacy & data.
  • Delete: delete your account and all your data at any time — see how to delete your account. This is permanent.
  • Access and correct: view and edit your information directly in the app.
  • Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data-protection authority (in Australia, the OAIC).

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your data from our live systems straight away (except what you added to someone else’s homestead — see Households above); any copies that remain in routine encrypted backups are cycled out within 30 days. We don’t keep your personal data after that except where the law requires us to.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above, and — for anything significant — let you know in the app.
